Various Artists

I posted something on my own blog just now about some various artists music compilations. As I was writing it, I decided to ask on here for people to comment on some of their favorite compilations. I'm sure we'll get some interesting and far-reaching choices.

"Have Yourself a Jazzy Little Christmas"

Really. For the most part I don't like compilation albums. I'm generally in the mood for a "sound" and will then choose an artist whose sound I want to hear. For this reason, a Christmas compilation is likely to be one of the few compilation albums I'll listen to with any sort of frequency.

In fact, looking through my collection, I see almost no compilation albums (other than the marvelous Kootch Music Samplers). In fact, I only see two that I can honestly say I've listened to in the past 2+ years:

"50 Years of Bluegrass Hits vol 1"
and the soundtrack album,
"O Brother, Where Art Thou"

The Phil Spector Christmas Album. I'm not kidding. It's awesome.

Also, Left of the Dial, a compilation of 80s alt. And boxed sets of Sun Records from the 50s and Motown and Stax in the Sixties.

Hey, Stix, don't forget the ever popular Rhino releases as well

But seriously folks; personally I am partial to the Classic Rock series put out by Time-Life Music same years back, but then seeing how I am much more venerable than you youngsters, is that really a surprise?

K: I thought that Left of the Dial box looked interesting. I take it you really like it?
